Our Turner Life

Er’y day

There have been so many “wow its been a while to I’m going to vomit up everything that has happened in the last few weeks” posts that I thought I would do one about the every day.  The truth is there has never been a more quite time in my life.  And I am thoroughly enjoying it!

So here is a peek at our everyday life!

Here is Margo showing of some mail from Nana!  Of course my mom silkscreened these cute pj’s for Margo!  She asks me to wear them every night!

Tonight we enjoyed some amazing pizza from an italian resturtant right down the street, but generally I feel like I’m cooking constantly and thats why I was so excited to come across this recipe for arroz con pollo (chicken with rice!)

It is a very basic dish that is EXTREMELY cost effective and delicious.  Its was amazing as is, but I use tomate paste the best because it brings a stronger flavour and a wonderful colour to the rice.  I also felt like I wanted more of a kick so I used chili powder instead of paprika, and added some red chili flakes to the broth.  The last time I made it I added carrots with the onion and garlic so that it is offically a one pan dish, with rice, chicken AND veggies!  Here is Margo’s plate for dinner two nights ago!

I love finding a new recipe and this one is a very common dish in Costa rica.  I don’t have a big enough pan to make the recipe so I cut it in half, which is just enough to feed our family.

But would you like to hear the most impressive part?  I bought a whole chicken and cut it into eight equal parts (using this video), which saved me A LOT of money.  I spent 5 dollars on this chicken and used half the meat (for half the recipe).  The recipe made four servings so I would estimate this dish cost me under a dollar a serving.  Pretty impressive (and let’s not forget that the most impressive part is me cutting up a whole chicken)!

And did I mention yummy!  I love finding new recipes because it makes cooking fun again.

And there is one more thing that goes on in the Turner house hold.  And for anyone that knows me well you will know that I LOVE to dance.  So naturally there are dance parties!  Here is Thelma dancing… (don’t worry… with any luck she will dance as well as I do!)
