So this one is for everyone who has been asking!  This is our new place in the heart of Playa Grande!

This is the view from the road!

The palm leaf roof gives us super high ceilings and a beautiful view!

The out door shower.  I love this feature!

This is the lime tree, and it is full of limes!

Thelma loves helping me pick the limes

We had two 8 pound bags full!

And this little guy came to visit Matt and the girls today.  Then later he came back and even I got to see him!

Life in Grande

by Rebecca - May 7th, 2013

Well, life has been busy for this family in the past couple of weeks, the busiest part being our move!  We recently moved into a casita in the heart of Playa Grande.  I am really enjoying it, and would love to share some pictures with you, but I have yet to find my camera charger from the move!  It is on my list of priorities!

Over these past couple weeks there has been a lot going on in Grande.  There was the closing party for the wonderful Mamasa Resturant.

Here’s a group of us ladies celebrating the success of Jamie’s first season!  Way to go Jamie!! (photo credit: Jamie!)

I am already eagerly awaiting her re-opening sometime in November!

There have been dinner parties and sunsets on the beach.

Myself, Jamie, Stacy and sweet Shyane!  (Photo credit: Tony?)

Margo and Thelma enjoying the sunset and a giant tide pool! (photo credit: Jamie!)

Margo and Jacey enjoying this amazing green grass!  (photo credit: Jamie!)

And of course Kid’s club was on the beach last week and it was wonderful and relaxing!

Not to mention all the unpacking and cleaning that goes with moving.  Blah!

One of the things I love about this new place is the lovely key lime tree and guava tree on the property.  I love the idea of growing some more plants and my dear friend Jamie brought over some thyme and rosemary for my new place.  If we add that to my pineapple and aloe vera plant, I am doing pretty good!  Lately I have been getting really excited about growing a veggie and fruit garden and using the fresh produce in my everyday cooking.  But I have to start somewhere, so I think it is going to be with a key lime pie!

Last night I spent much of my day sewing (or attempting to sew).  My machine has been giving me a lot of trouble, but with some patience and a bit of determination, I might actually get something done!  But we had an early dinner and I decided last minute to take the girls down to watch the sunset.  Thelma has been persistently refusing to go in the water for about 8 months now, so I dressed Margo and Thelma in matching dresses and expected them to play in the sand and watch the sun set.

When Thelma saw the water, she pointed at it and shouted “pool!”  She ran in and we played in the surf, water creeping up her dress.  I couldn’t believe I didn’t have a camera to take pictures as she laughed and ran around playing in the water!  All in the most adorable dress.  It was such a sweet moment and the three of us played until the sunset.   A truly wonderful night.  I suppose it is not too hard to see why I have fallen in love with Playa Grande!

So although this pictures are from a different day, they will have

Surfing at Pirate’s Bay

by Rebecca - April 20th, 2013

Matt got the opportunity to go with a group of friends to Pirate’s bay, and the lovely Kelsey took this photos of him surfing!  I can’t believe how awesome he is, because when we first came to Grande he had only been surfing once or twice.

He is tearing it up!

A hard days work!  He came back exhausted and sun burnt but grinning from ear to ear!  Thanks Kelsey for the awesome pics!

A play-date and visiting a salt marsh!

by Rebecca - April 13th, 2013

Well, yesterday is what one would call a full day!  There was no school yesterday due to some sort of holiday (that I”m not sure what it is!) and so we had a fun play-date with Zach instead!

First there was play-doh!

And then hand made finger paints!

The kids loved it!

After the girls napped Margo and I headed to kid’s club and these horses went right past us as I closed the gate.

I love Costa Rica!

For Kid’s Club we went down a trail I had never seen before to the salt marsh.  Here are some pictures below.

It was so beautiful

I learned something new about this plant.  The ants live in the spikes, so if you brush up against the plant you had better watch out!!  They have a very painful bite.  So the plant provides a home for the ants and the ants protect the plant.  Nature is pretty awesome!

We even saw our first ant eater.  I didn’t get a good picture at all, but it was awesome to see!

Sleeping

by Rebecca - April 9th, 2013

Well, needless to say it has been far too long since I wrote last and things have been surprisingly busy.  But rather than fill you in all at once I will simply share with you this picture today!

I found them like this when I went to tell them dinner was ready!

Ok, ok, maybe one more…

Can’t get enough of my girls.

Community Art Show in Playa Grande

by Rebecca - March 24th, 2013

This Thursday we had an art show in Playa Grande.  It was so much fun, and great to see all the art!

Margo was very excited to find her art that she made in kid’s club.

My table. (To see more check out my etsy shop!)

Ya for art!

I love how peaceful and relaxed Playa Grande is.  Dogs, kids and people all mingling about.

When dusk came the amazing Tera took the kids to release 28 black turtle hatchlings into the ocean.  It was such an amazing experience, watching those tiny little guys find their way to the ocean!    I love how many amazing community events we have here in Grande to enjoy.

Weekend at a glance

by Rebecca - March 21st, 2013

Sometimes time just seems to wiz by but I’m always thankful for…

some beach snuggles,

my little monster,

a night out with the fam (even if this is what we come home to!  Bad Miggy!),

and of course, some puppy love!

What a great weekend (even though we are halfway through the week)!

And check out Thelma playing all on her own… this video doesn’t last long because she catches on quickly that she is being watched!  MOV05740

Man’s best friend and Recycling a Pineapple continuation…

by Rebecca - March 14th, 2013

Thelma, Miggy and I enjoying the morning (aka- trying to keep Thelma occupied while her big sister is at school!)

Love those eyes!

And I’m not referring to my creepy eyes that are focusing on aiming the camera in the right direction.

Anyone remember a post I did on sprouting the top of my pinapple and planting it?  (You can find it here).

Look at it now!  It might even bear fruit one day!

And, this hot pepper plant that a neighbour left behind just got it’s first flower!  I think that I just might have a green thumb after all!

Simple and wonderful day

by Rebecca - March 13th, 2013

Any day that begins with our friend dropping off limes and mangos from his trees is going to be a good day!  We already enjoyed some limeade, and I’m looking forward to some mango salsa tonight!

After school Margo and I hit the beach, it was such a perfect (and hot) day.

What do you see in the middle cloud?  Margo says its a sea monster, but I can only see a leatherback sea turtle.  How appropriate for a Playa Grande cloud!

And of course, and nice mud bath to end our trip.

On a day like today, there is so much to be thankful for!  Good friends, family, we have everything we need and more, so how can I not be smiling when we are so blessed?

Now, I think a little sewing will be a perfect way to spend the afternoon.  Check out my new etsy shop listing!  Thanks for all your support!

A new friend

by Rebecca - March 12th, 2013

An uneventful day can become very interesting when your husband catches an iguana!

He relaxed enough to munch on some papaya, and then he was off!

And of course my (almost) daily visit with the puppies.

 I just love them!

For those of you who are wondering the farmer’s market was awesome,  I sold a couple hair pins and a dress!  Unfortunately I forgot my camera at home, I was hoping to share a picture of my set up with you all.  I did add an new item to my etsy shop and there are more to come!

I also bought some homemade Mamasa hot sauce, delicious baked goods and organic farm fresh veggies and star fruit.  It was such and awesome day, and it even ended with a ride home from dear friends Christian and Dori.  Now that is what I would call a success!
